Various Assignments

The following are photos from various assignments that we were given throughout the Semester.

Visual Poem:

For this assignment I took a picture of the Weeping Lady 

at the Logan City Cemetery and then this picture of Nate. 

I displayed them side by side and it was quite poetic, if I may say so myself. 

For some reason I can't locate a photo of the Weeping Lady, so you just get the Nate!

Silhouettes:

This is my sweet niece Hallie Grace. 

We were supposed to be playing with silhouettes and I caught this one kind of by accident. 

I absolutely love it, even though it's not really a silhouette!

The Cliche Verve:

Ahhh... the Cliche Verve. 

This is actually a picture that I etched out of some type of ash that was painted on glass,

then processed as a negative on the enlarger. 

This was a fun assignment, but it was super messy and the ash was quite smelly.

The SHOE Project:

Okay, that wasn't what this assignment was called,

I don't really remember why we did this or what the point of it was,

but here it is anyway!! :)

Just Processed:

We took a trip to Jackson during the winter and went snowshoeing. 

I took this picture at the base of a trail that led to a gorgeous view of the Tetons. 

I couldn't wait to get these pictures back to the dark room!

Studio Lighting Test: 

I set up a faux studio in my in law's basement and had a great time 

trying out my lighting and actually figuring out what worked and what didn't. 

Yes, I know the lighting in this picture leaves much to be desired, 

but I couldn't resist posting a pic of Nate & I!

Hailey:

What can I say about Hailey except that she is, hands down, my favorite dog. 

I'm more of a cat lover than a dog lover, but there is something about Hailey 

that makes me smile every time I see her! 

This is just a picture that I took for fun that I ended up processing 

during a demonstration for some kids at Edith Bowen.

Self Portrait:

One of our assignments was to do a Self Portrait. 

I had such grand ideas of how this would turn out 

and I must say that the self in this portrait was not what I wanted to be, 

but I feel really liked the end coloring, so here it is!

Duplication:

Innocence - for this assignment we had to spend time in the library and find a picture to duplicate. 

I don't have the original picture (I wish I did), but here is my replication. 

The model for this picture is my mom's cute neighbor, Megan.

Wow, that was a lot of photos. Thanks for hangin' in there with me!

Photography 1 - Series 2 - Single Subject

Single Subject

Our second assignment in the class 

was to take multiple pictures of the below sculpture, located on Campus. 

When we were first given the assignment, I groaned inwardly. 

How can anyone make a good picture of such a stationary subject? 

It couldn't move, it had no personality, how was it to be done?

This assignment actually turned out to be one of my favorites. 

Not because I think my prints turned out astounding works of art, 

but because it stretched me and really taught me how to work angles 

and how to see the subject from every side.

Here are my final two prints that I made up:

In case you were wondering, 

I was going for my silhouette in the background, 

I needed something to give this piece of metal some life!!

Photography 1 - Series 1 - Pinhole Camera

In 2006 I was able to take a Photography class at USU! 

It was tough, it was smelly, it kept me so busy, and I LOVED every minute of it! 

Each of these pictures was processed - from film to print - in the dark room. 

As I have been scanning these in and getting them ready to post I have felt a longing 

to be back in the smelly dark room, spending hours perfecting a print. 

Someday, when my dreams have come true, I will have my dark room set up again! 

Until then, these pictures, my first real prints, will have to suffice!

Series 1

The Pinhole Camera

Oh how I wish I would have taken a picture of my pinhole camera. 

My teacher, Mark, had a deep love for the pinhole camera, 

something that none of my classmates shared with him! 

One of our very first assignments for the class was to make a pinhole camera and make three pictures. Here are my attempts:

Oh, and the white spots - that is what dust does to your negatives.

Burton Family

Oh, how I love this family! 

They were all able to get together for Christmas 

and I was fortunate enough to spend some time with them the day after and take their photos! 

I have known this family for years and years and it was so fun for me to see them all together 

and to capture their silliness and their love for each other! 

It was a chilling 6 degrees outside, but they were troopers! 

And watching the adults dance around to get smiles out of the kids 

(and probably to stay warm) was priceless!

Our Family

My in-laws are prepping to take a big leap and move to New York! 

It is an ironic move, seeing as how their daughter finally moved home with her two girls, 

but they are excited to go and we are excited for the opportunities that their move will provide for them! 

We will miss them like crazy, and apparently, they will miss their family as well! 

For Christmas, Lynnette requested updated pictures of all of her kids to fill her frames 

that haven't been updated for quite a few years! 

I was able to take pictures for my sister-in-laws beautiful family and my brother-in-law as well ...

Sweet Baby Boy

I have a good friend who is a foster mom to this beautiful baby! 

I was lucky enough to take some photos of him this week, but because confidentiality is essential, 

I can't show you any of his perfect little face! 

This sweet couple is fostering this baby with hopes that he will become theirs. 

As I look at these pictures and think of my friend, my heart fills with joy 

and with hope as I imagine that happening. 

They are so smitten with this baby (as was I after the first 30 seconds of meeting him) 

and it is plain to see that he simply adores them as well!

To my friends, you know who you are, 

my prayers are with you in hopes that he will be a permanent part of your family!

Brittany R.

This is my sweet and beautiful cousin, Brittany!

We had a family reunion this last weekend, and we took a few minutes

away from the family and had a little photo shoot!!

It was FREEZING, so we didn't stay out for long,

but we definitely had a great time!!

Travel Photos - England/Scotland 2001

In 2001, we had the opportunity to stay with my husbands family for a few weeks

while they were living in England! They lived in the beautiful town of Whitley Bay!

We toured Northern England and up into Scotland - here are some of our favorite photos from our trip!

 

It was such an amazing two weeks, we shot 30, yes, THIRTY, rolls of film while we were there!

Traveling is such a passion of ours and we are so grateful that we had this opportunity!
